The Importance of Load Stability
When finished goods are transported and stored there is a high level of trust that the packaging will efficiently protect the items. A crucial aspect of handling large quantities in bulk is maintaining healthy load stability to ensure products are not damaged in transit or while in storage. In addition to protection, load stability is essential for minimizing movement, establishing even weight distribution, and achieving optimal stack and return nest ratios. Peninsula Plastics manufactures reusable packaging solutions to address these areas of importance with innovative designs, durable material selection, and the possibility to incorporate post-production inserts for added product support.
Minimized Movement
While transported, products can experience unwanted shifting and movement within their packaging resulting in damaged goods. In warehouses, inadequate pallets and containers have the potential to cause harm to your workforce by decreasing its load stability. Decreased load stability creates hazards when skids are prone to lean / tip causing potential product damage and harming nearby workers.
Even Weight Distribution
Proper weight distribution ensures each load and skid can maintain equilibrium while stationary and while in motion. Efficient packaging helps equally distribute the weight of each unit to keep a solid center of gravity and minimize the risk of tipping or collapsing. This idea is vital to maximizing the number of products you can ship and store successfully.
Maximized Stack/Return Nest Ratios
Efficient use of space in warehouses and return shipments is essential to cost-effectiveness and enhanced supply chain processes. Storage facilities become more organized allowing for streamlined processes with high stack/nest ratio packaging. Once items are ready to be transported, improved load stability is highly beneficial when analyzing increased stacking heights without compromising safety, and better return nest ratios mean reduced transportation costs.
Packaging to Improve Load Stability
Peninsula Plastics understands the importance of load stability in transporting goods and storing inventory in warehouses. Our packaging is strategically developed using versatile manufacturing materials, injection molded inserts, and innovative engineering. These components form durable packaging solutions that increase maximum stack height and weight limits per skid.
Innovative Packaging Designs
Peninsula Plastics has a variety of innovative and sustainable packaging designs suited to elevate load capacities for your shipped goods. Ready-made products include mirror-image pallets, flat-bottom pallets, nine-leg pallets, lids, totes, and sleeve packs. Peninsula Plastics also creates many custom products that are designed from scratch to support unique packaging challenges.
Ready-made Product Spotlight: 45” x 48” Mirror-Image Pallet
Peninsula Plastics thermoformed 45” x 48” twin sheet, mirror-image pallet (07-0001) is engineered to enhance automotive supply chain processes. Included in our heavy-duty series, the pallet can withstand the abuse of everyday use in warehouses and over the road. With easy access and ergonomic features, the reusable pallet promotes worker safety while streamlining operations. Its mirror-image structure allows the pallet to stack and nest to free up crucial floor space within your facilities.
Custom-made Product Spotlight: Automotive Caliper Custom Part Tray
This custom part tray from Peninsula Plastics is designed to hold and ship automotive calipers. Calipers perfectly rest into each tray slot minimizing unwanted part shifting and chaffing. When designing this custom unit, four trays were incorporated that each house 15 parts per tray (totaling 60 parts per UL). The maximum stack for this pack is three units high when units are filled with product. When empty, return ratios allow for four units to be stacked high for efficient warehouse storage.
Material Selection
Choosing the right packaging material for your operations is crucial in achieving load stability. The pallets, containers, trays, and lids we thermoform are primarily made with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). These materials have great strength-to-density ratios, enabling our packaging to have high static and dynamic weight load capabilities while maintaining stability.
Injection Molded Inserts
We offer custom injection molded inserts that can be installed into pallets, containers, trays, and lids to enhance component security in motion. These add-ons enhance packaging structure and load stability by firmly securing each item. The inserts can be designed to fit your unique product requirements for the safe delivery of every shipment. They reduce the amount of movement within the packaging to avoid damaged goods and poor weight distribution.
